Dark Energy

For ten billion years
after the Bang,
the Universe turned inward,
expansion slowed --
each tiny piece of everything
sought a brilliant center,
the singular womb
from which being became.

But the repulsion
of distance
overcame the attraction
of proximity.

Now the Universe flings forth
nascent worlds,
coalescing stars
more quickly every second,
and each piece of everything
seeks darkness
through an infinity
of dimension.
